Match was switched to Eckington, as Manor lined up without Rhys and Joe B. Manor were battling but conceded after 14 mins before Sam stroked home a penalty for his first of the season (27 mins). Eckington got a second and went in leading 2-1 at HT. Manor came out strong and determined and Matt H scored a brave goal beating the goalkeeper to a bouncing ball and heading into an empty net for his first of the season (42 mins). Sam put in a sweet free kick for Danny to flick home an unstoppable header to put Manor 3-2 up on 49 mins: another first goal of the season. But Eckington came straight back and equalised within a minute of the re-start. It looked well balanced as both sides battled hard in a tough and uncompromising game until an extremely harsh penalty award went Eckington's way on 62 mins and it proved to be the winner. Manor still had their chances but a combination of solid 'keeping and some good luck meant Eckington ran out narrow winners. Tremendous performances from the whole team, with Man of the Match awards to Joe H for a rock solid job as left back and to Matt H for a hard working performance on the other side of defence.
Great start to the match with Manor dominating the first 15 minutes. Rhys scored the first on 5 mins and then Rich scored on his 're-debut!' after 8 mins. Norfolk got one back before Oli (12 mins) finished a move started by Elliot to take Manor in at HT leading 3 - 1. Totally opposite start to the second half with Norfolk dominating with two quick goals in 5 minutes. Rhys restored the lead on 50 mins but Norfolk got the final goal (63 mins) to draw level again. Chances for both sides to snatch it at the end as Sam and Rich went close. Hard fought match on a boggy pitch but only a point to show for the team was nothing like enough. Joe B was missing from the squad for this match and Rhys picked up the Man of the Match.
Full squad but a few niggling injuries lurking as we made our way up the M18 for the second week running. Michael was captain and we started well, taking advantage of the downhill slope, with Elliot finishing neatly on 3 mins. 1 - 1 after 12 mins but we were back ahead after Rhys pursued a lost ball and finished into an empty net (26mins). Sloppy marking put Birks Holt level again on 29 mins. HT 2 - 2. Manor fell apart in the second half, losing discipline, shape, commitment: everything really! Birks Holt put in two without reply in the first 15 mins before we tried to rally with a Shane goal on 71 mins but it was nothing like enough and Birks Holt ran out easy winners with their fifth goal on 74 mins. Thanks to Andy for an excellent performance as referee (standing in at a moments notice) and to all parents for their spirited support for a disappointing Manor performance. Despite the result, there were some good displays, especially from Jaimie in goal and from man of the match winners Sam and Oli.
First match of the season for our lads and a visit to Bramley. Both sides were playing in Division E after our promotion and Bramley's relegation. Injury to our regular keeper Jaimie meant Matt H put on the gloves for only the second time in his Manor career. Kicking off in great weather with Michael as captain both sides played good direct attacking football but stalemate at half time, 0 - 0. Bramley took the lead on 48 mins after hesitancy in defence but some fantastic flowing football got Manor back in the game with Rhys finishing a move created by Sam (66 mins). Nail biting end to end finish to the match with chances for both sides before a hotly disputed free kick led to a Bramley winner with 3 mins to go. FT 2 - 1. A very harsh result for a Manor performance that was full of battling, running and commitment. Every player got the Man of the Match award.
